What it does to a screen
The reason people put these in a living room is the television. A closed vane spreads the afternoon sun across the whole window instead of throwing a bar of it onto the glass, so the picture stays readable at four in the afternoon without turning the room into a cave.
It is a sheer, not a blackout
Even with the vanes fully closed, this is a light-filtering treatment. It gives you complete daytime privacy and it does not give you darkness. In a bedroom we pair it with drapery panels, or we put a cellular shade there instead and keep the Shangri-La for the rooms people see.

No — closed, it reads as one soft panel. Open, you look straight through the gaps. That switch is the whole product, and it happens with about an inch of chain.
Well, to 120". The vanes are light, so the shade does not get heavy the way a lined Roman does at that height, and motorization keeps it easy to operate on a two-storey foyer.
Dust them with a feather duster or a vacuum on the lowest suction with a brush head. The sheer facings do not hold much. Do not spot-clean with water — a wet mark on a sheer stays visible.
